Teaching Philosophy
Music is a powerful means of expressing our emotions, honing our ability to listen attentively, and connecting with others across time and cultures. As a music educator, my role is to facilitate a deeper engagement with music by meeting students where they are and guiding them forward with a tailored approach that draws on a variety of tools and methods.
At the heart of my teaching is the belief that music is a language. Just as with any language, there are multiple ways to engage: through performance, composition, improvisation, and analysis. My goal is to nurture students' understanding of these different modes of engagement, helping them to become well-rounded musicians who can both interpret and create music with confidence and depth.
Music challenges the mind, engaging intellectual, physical, and emotional faculties simultaneously. To support this holistic engagement, I integrate mindfulness practices into my lessons, helping students improve focus and achieve better results both in practice and in performance. For younger students, I also use Dalcroze-inspired exercises, linking music with movement to develop attentive listening and a deeper internalization of rhythm and expression.
Finally, music serves as a bridge to others. I encourage families of young students to participate in the music-making process at home, as this strengthens the child's connection to music and creates a nurturing environment for learning. Beyond the family, music also connects us to the composers and cultures of past centuries, enriching our understanding of the world and our place within it.

"Claudio is probably the best piano teacher I have ever had since age 5. He personalizes his teaching based on how I progress: add in music theory as needed and switch to different composers to bring out my potential and challenge me intellectually. He focuses on techniques and also the musicality of the pieces. The well-balanced lessons are always enjoyable. He shows enormous amount of empathy and sympathy as a fantastic teacher, human being and a dear dear friend."
